Docent
- Docent training classes are scheduled twice a year. Opportunities abound.
- School Tours: During the school year, docents lead school-groups through the showrooms. As a docent you will focus on the Conservatory’s rain forest and desert collections explaining how these plants have adapted to very different ecosystems. The changing displays in the fern room provide additional material for interpretation.
Time commitment: Minimum two hours per month
- Exploration Station: Operating every Saturday morning, September – May, as well as school holidays from 10:00 – 12:00, the Exploration Station is available for children 3 and up. Topics include Conservatory Critters, Plant Explorers, Animal Plants and Fruits. Docents help children learn through interactive displays and games in the showrooms.
Time commitment: Minimum three hours per month
Special Event Volunteer
- FOPCON sponsors a wide range of one day and evening special events throughout the year. These include the MumFest, KidsFest, Plant Sale, Garden Walk and the Plant Exchanges. All of these events need volunteers.
Time commitment: Varies with the event.
Horticultural Volunteer
- Volunteer in the showrooms and behind the scenes in the growing houses. Help transplanting new stock and moving plants in the showrooms.
Time commitment: Three hours weekly – Monday – Friday,
9:00 – 12:00 a. m. or 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Plant Sale Grower Volunteer
- Assist in potting, transplanting and nurturing hundreds of flowers, vegetables and herbs sold at the Annual Plant Sale held every May.
Time commitment: Three hours weekly – Tuesday – Saturday during the months of February – April
Committee Member
- Volunteer committee members work on membership, education, fund raising, public relations and more. If you have interest or background in any of these areas, we need you.
Time commitment: Varies with each committee.
